movie reads fine rw dvd ejects

my mid 09 17 inch macbook pro will read and play dvd movies but instantly ejects blank media cd or dvd rw. but if the cd or dvd isn't a rw it reads fine. i have reset the pram and cleaned the lens.

The drive is failing. Just replace the drive. That’s pretty common. It might continue to read other discs, or it might eventually stop working altogether. Replacements are cheap and they’re not that hard to replace.
