movie stops playing in every playback application

i have a few movies, all are blu-ray 1080p but are .mkv files. they were torrented (legally).

when playing them it starts to play and after a few minutes it stops, freezes the video, not application, and stops all together. i cannot skip to different periods in the movie, it will go to the selected time but stay black.

can this be the video files? or my mac, or even from the torrent download process?

its probably the torrent itself, try getting it from a different location, legally, of course.
oh! do you mean it does this with all the files or just one?
if its all the files, then you could try converting them to mp4/mv4.
