I have no connection to the developer. I'm just happy to share the solution to a vexing issue importing external camera videos into iMovie on the iPad.

Videos shot on my new camera would play on the iPad, but couldn't be imported into iMovie. iMovie didn't even "see" them in the camera roll! Looking on the Internet, I found that this is a common problem, and the typical solution is to run the video through a computer-based converter. Easy enough but my goal is to travel laptop-free. I stumbled on an iPad-based solution in the iPad App store: MovieConverter from Gruby Solutions. It doesn't have many ratings (iTunes Canada) and at $2.99 it isn't a cheap experiment, but I went ahead and purchased it. The bottom line is that MovieConverter is simple to use and works perfectly. The converted movies show up and can be edited in iMovie. Note that the app uses the term "convert" literally. The original files are replaced with new files with the same name but a new timestamp. The app gives no indication of what it does to the file. They are still listed as "mov". (I just reinstalled Windows 7 on my PC, so I don't have any tools handy to look at the video format).

For the record, my new camera is a Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS which replaces an aging PowerShot A510. I did my homework and selected a camera that uses an iPad compatible video format (H.264 at 720p). The camera will also shoot 1080p and it does transfer to the iPad via the Camera Connection Kit, but only 720p and 480p "mov" videos play. I was shocked to find that the videos won't show up in iMovie! Anyway, I have my solution with MovieConverter. I'd like to shoot video of a classroom in the morning and during lunch edit it into a movie to show during my presentation in the afternoon. Now I can do that without having to lug my MacBook Pro along.
