Movies in VLC and DVD player

Hi guys, I hope you can help with this. I have used Mac the ripper (latest version) to transfer some of my DVD movies onto my computer for when I'm away on business and bored in hotel rooms. However, when I play them with VLC, there is a slight skip between each scene in the movie (same with all my movies). When I use DVD player in OSX, to play the Video TS folder, there is no skip between scences BUT there is text appearing at the top of the screen throughout the movie telling me the name of the director and then the writer and then the producer etc. Very weird.

Anyone know what's going on?

p.s. Just to be clear these are DVDs that I have bought but I don't want to carry them around with me because I always loose or scratch them.

Or is there another 3rd party player to watch DVDs?
