Movies on tv off my mbp + eternal display

I wanna watch movies on my TV off my macbook pro. i was just wondering what kinda accessories i would need?
And i was wondering what i would need to use a external display on my macbook pro

To connect to a TV, you will need a MiniDisplay Port to HDMI adapter along with an HDMI cord. If you have a MBP from before 2010, you will also need a cable from the audio jack to the TV. If it is from 2010 or later, you don't need anything else. It would be basically the same setup for an external display, unless it's the Cinema Display from Apple which comes with all of the required cords.
