Movies/TV-show generic thumbnails

I've transferred several movies and TV-shows over to an iPad Air (late 2013, IOS 11.0.3) using iTunes (12.5.4.42) on a Mac, but for some reason the thumbnails shown in iTunes is replaced by a generic gray movie icon instead on the iPad.
What is the reason for this and how can I fix it?
