I am upgrading my mid-2012 MBP running OSX 10.13.6. I am replacing the 1TB HDD, which currently is spilt into two 500GB partitions one being OSX and the other being Windows 10, with a 500GB SSD and a 120GB SSD that will be replacing the optical drive.

My goal is to move the the two partitions from the HDD to their own separate drives. I want OSX on the 500GB SSD(located in the original drive bay), and Win10 on the 120GB SSD(this drive will replace the optical drive).

Here is my plan of action:

  1. Backup the current HDD using Time Machine.
  2. Use Winclone to clone my current bootcamp partition.
  3. Install 120GB SSD into optical drive bay using a data doubler.
  4. Boot back into OSX, restore my bootcamp image on the new 120GB SSD via Winclone.
  5. Delete the old bootcamp partition on the HDD, so that OSX fills the entire 1TB HDD.
  6. Connect the new 500GB SSD via Usb.
  7. Clone my HDD with SuperDuper to my new 500GB SSD.
  8. Install the new 500GB SSD in the original hard drive place.
  9. Enjoy the new speeds and hopefully get another 4-6 years out of this machine!

If there is anything that I should be doing instead of what I listed please let me know.

Is there a better way to do this via different programs? I have read that you can't use the Time Machine restore function on High Sierra when going from an HDD to a SSD, which is the only reason I am using SuperDuper for OSX.

Also if it would be much easier to just repurchase/reinstall windows that can also be and option. I do not have any files on windows that I need to keep.
I have also ready that running windows off a separate drive that is mounted in the optical drive bay doesn't work for some 2012 MacBook Pros.

Thank you in advance, I have done a ton of research on this process and I am still lost on what the best procedure to do is.
