I am planning soon to transfer all my work over from my PowerMac G5 over to my Macbook Pro. Right now, the G5 is on auto back up with my Time Capsule via Time Machine, and currently has a backup file there.

My question is how do I transfer my work over using that backup file from my G5? Must I set up Time Machine first on my MBP and then do some sort of transfer through there?

use Migration Assistant in your Utilities folder. you cant do a full Time Machine backup restore from the install DVD as the PowerPC system files wouldnt work on a MacBook Pro.

Oh my, I didn't even think about PPC/Intel compatibility issues.

Will the migration assistant deal with files found in the library and preferences folders as well? There are important settings files for Logic Pro in there that I would need to transfer too.

im not sure sorry but important stuff in the user and main library are transferred. try it and if some Logic stuff wasnt transferred reply back and hopefully someone will probably tweet in.
