so im thinking of getting a new hdd, but i dont want to lose any files. and after i get the new hdd id have to install Mac OSX but is there anyway to move files without an external hard drive, like time machine?

Buy any of these along with the new HD (USB/Firewire, I don't know what MB you have now, so choose accordingly): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...escription=external drive enclosure&name=SATA
Install the new HD internally, and set it up. Then, install your old HD into said enclosure, plug it in, and copy your files back.
