Hi all,

In the past day or so, my Mac mini has been acting a little odd (2.4 C2D, booting off of a Firewire SSD). File moves (not copies) have started taking an inordinate amount of time to complete (~10 seconds or so). This behavior has happened two days in a row, but it's not entirely reproducible. I've also seen the behavior happen when moving files on my external hard disk drive (the SSD and the HDD are on the same Firewire chain, though).

Also, just this evening I've noticed that it can take 1-2 seconds after clicking for a menu to show up in the menu bar (the Apple menu included). However, this behavior only presents itself when some apps are active (e.g. Finder, Xcode) and not others (e.g. Safari).

Knowing from experience that an inexplicably sluggish UI can foreshadow a hard drive failure, I've backed everything up. Disk Utility says everything's fine with both disks, but I have my suspicions. At any rate, I wanted to get some feedback on what folks think the next troubleshooting step should be. Thanks as always for any help :).
