Moving from 10.15.7 on rMBP mid-2015 15" to whatever comes on MBP 16"

My spanking new 2021 MBP 16" M1Max 1TB is due to arrive in an hour (or two) :)

So, now starting to think about migrating contents from my existing MBP ...

I've deliberately stopped on 10.15.7 but should I now upgrade to any particular o/s before starting the migration?

And what is your recommended choice of migration tool?
