My wife has an Iphone 4 running IOS5. Her Iphone5 arrives today. She wants to keep everything (contacts, pics etc). Do I have to first update her Iphone 4 to IOS6 and then back up and then move her to the Iphone 5 OR can I just backup what she has now and then use that backup on the Iphone 5?

Thanks

Just make a current backup. The 5 will have iOS6.

OK, thank you.

I knew the 5 has iOS6, but I didn't want it to "revert" to iOS5 if I tried a restore from backup (or whatever the correct term is) and used her iOS5 backup.

I assume a "backup" doesn't backup the software ie the IOS) itself, just the data (ie contacts, messages, music, pics etc), correct?

The iPhone 5 can not run iOS5.

Correct.
