ok so once i have snow leopard clean installed, how do i get safari's bookmarks and passwords to transfer? same with ical's events and itunes' playlists (i'll have the exact files).

If you have an external harddrive, you should just make a time machine backup and use migration assistant. It's very straightforwards, and will make sure you get everything without much hassle.

Edit - although if you insist on doing it the other way:
- Safari bookmarks: File>Export bookmarks
- Passwords: Find your keychains in Library>Keychains, copy them, open Keychain Access (in Applications>Utilities), then import them and provide your password from the original computer when prompted.
- iTunes: File>Library>Export Library
- iCal: looks like File>Export, but I don't have personal experience using that...

thanks, the second part was exactly what i was looking for. i didn't want to use timemachine and migration assistance because there might be a problem from syncing newer software files with older software.
