Anybody know if something like this is possible? Say I buy an iPhone in the US where AT&T is the operator, and move to Honduras where Claro is the operator selling the iPhone. Would I be able to pay the AT&T ETF and sign up for a Claro contract and use my iPhone there without any other charges occuring?

Another question, do all of the operators selling the 3G iPhone need to be able to offer visual voicemail?

a few things that have to happen:

1. iPhone has to support band used by Claro
2. you have to unlock the iPhone

you just won't get to use visual voicemail, if Claro doesn't have it

I believe you have to unlock it so the iPhone can use Claro's SIM card. If the phone isn't unlocked the iPhone won't take anything other than AT&T's.

What I'm thinking of is that maybe being they offer the iPhone also I could just take it in, and they could just restore it or something and it'd be just like new from them and locked to Claro.
