Looking for help please on what to do with all the photos I have in an old iPhoto library please, seeing as iPhoto is an out of date and unsupported by Apple.

I have an old 2012 MacBook that I no longer use, and it's failing. It has a 400gb iPhoto library, the iPhoto library is also backed up to an external hard drive. I now use a newer MacBook with the newer Photos app.

I'd like to move all the iPhoto images out of iPhoto, but I'm not sure what to do with them. Whatever I do with them they will have to live on an external hard drive as there's no room on my current MacBook, so I can't merge them with my current Photos library and I don't want them syncing to my devices. I just want the old iPhoto images to live on an external HD.

I guess I could just create and name lots of folders on an ext HD and extract all the images from the iPhoto albums to keep them in some order, or possibly create a new Photos library on the ext HD and move them into there?

What would be the best thing to do with these old iPhoto images please?
