I'm thinking about moving my iTunes library from my internal hard drive to an external hard drive and also in the near future replacing my current internal hard drive.

I currently have a 2008 aluminum unibody Macbook running Mountain Lion (having done nothing but standard upgrades from Leopard to SL to Lion to ML) and was planning on getting an SSD to get a fresh start with Mavericks regardless.

My current internal hard drive is in the early process of dying (multiple beach balls per day with corresponding disk0s2 errors showing up in Console).

I'd like to do a clean install as possible when I get my new internal hard drive, but ABSOLUTELY want to preserve all my manually added album art, play counts, ratings, etc. from my current setup when I install the new hard drive.

What should I do to make sure this happens?
