Is there an easy way to move mail from one mac to another? I have a macbook and I want to copy all of the settings on my desktop Apple mail (PowerMac G5) to my laptop. I have many many folders and as many if not more rules. I really don't want to type these in again by hand.

I know I can tar up the Mail directory and move it over to get the messages, but will Mail on the macbook realize that if I just place the messages in the directory?

Get the Mail preferences too (com.apple.mail.plist) from the Preferences folder. Assuming both machines are running the same OS and the same version of Mail, you should be fine simply placing the files in their equivalent spots on the new machine. Just make sure Mail is closed at the time. :)
