I am planning on doing a clean install of Mavericks on my Mac Pro (currently running OSX 10.6.8), followed by a manual migration of my data. What I am a bit confused about is Mail. I have many email accounts, some active, some inactive. The actively used ones are all IMAP accounts, but among the not actively used ones, there are many POP3 accounts. I want to keep all my email and their attachments in Mail, because I often find myself in situations where I need to search for emails that are many years old.
Some people say that it is possible to simply copy the folders with the Mail data over in the finder (from one library folder to the other). Others claim that this won't work and that the only option is to export each mailbox separately in Mail and then re-import it in the Mavericks Mail app, after setting up the accounts there.
1) Which of the above is true? Can I just copy the folders over, or is it better to export and re-import all mailboxes manually?
2) If I need to go with the second option, will all the attachments be transferred also? Are attachments included when archiving/exporting a mailbox?
Thanks!
