Moving movies to external hd and iTunes synch question

Good day,

Let's say I move all my movies to my external hd. If my external is no connected to my MacBook and I try to synch only music, iTunes will erase the movies that I have in my iPad or is gonna create a copy?

I want to leave the external hd at home when taking my laptop, sometimes I need to upgrade my music playlist on the way, but I dont wanna be carrying up the movies because of the lack of space.

Any suggestions? :apple:
