HI
i have found that my 15000 photos and 1500 videos are taking up 80gbs on my Macbook pro
i have a 150gb external drive
i understand that if i drug the (new) photos library into the external drive it will save photos across...
it said this would take....1 then 2 the 4 days remaining....
there must be a more effective way to achieve this task?
i don't want to save things in the cloud etc.
please give advice
steve

Since photos are a very large collection of small files, no matter what you do, transferring so much at once will take a very, very long time. Since you never mentioned what make and model your external is, nor what year and size MBP you own, nor which OS X version you are running, nobody can give you any tips that could potentially speed things up.

If those photos are of any importance at all to you, your external should not the only place where they are stored, hard drives all die, it's a matter of when, not if. Cloud solutions aren't too bad an idea, it gives you a backup off site should the house burn down.
