moving profiles long term

I have a 2010 27" iMac. I am going to be traveling for a period of 5 months. Is there a way to move the entire profile including all pictures and files onto a Macbook during the travel, and then move everything back onto the iMac upon return to include all changes and updates made during the time away?

If you really want to move everything and you are not concerned about sync between the two, you could use Migration Assistant to move everything from the iMac to the Macbook. Then when you get back, just delete the now outdated account from the iMac and run Migration Assistant in the other direction to move the data from the Macbook to the iMac.

If you just want photos and documents moved over, you can just copy those two folder over via your network. But Migration assist would move everything including all your settings.

Of course make sure you back both machines each time you do this in case something goes wrong.
