Hi

I got a macbook pro as a birthday gift and I was wondering whether I could move my programs and their information from my iMac (which I am selling) to my macbook pro?

I understand you can make a ghost image and plant it on the new mac but I was wondering whether I could do this from an iMac to a macbook pro without having and problems with compatibility...

Thanks for any help

As my iMac is already running Lion would there be an issue?

No. But if you're using the migration assistant and want everything to be like on the iMac, you should create a new user with any name except for the name you have on the iMac. For instance Temp. Then you use the migration assistant, follow the instructions, log into that account and delete the Temp account. Tada, everything is the way it was but on a new computer :)
