Like a lot of early iphone users, I have two apple ID's; one that i use for purchases in the app store, and for various kinds of content, and one which is my main icloud ID.

The one used for purchases is used by me, my wife, and two (now grown) children in the Settings > Apple Account > Media and Purchases login.

We each have our own Apple ID for the primary ID on our devices.

So, five apple ID's for four people.

I think I want to switch to Family Sharing, because I think it will be better, and because an important, and somewhat expensive app was purchased under the "wrong" ID, so its use is very limited.

I have tried to read up on this, but want to be sure of a few things.

1) the way to do this is to make the original ID that bought all the apps an contents the "Family Organizer", and that ID should then invite the four other ID's to be part of its family - right?

Or, does it not really matter who is the family organizer - because all family members can, if they wish, share all their purchased apps and content - subject i understand in some cases to limitation made by developers.

obviously the original ID that bough the apps needs to be part of the family; I am just asking if it needs to be the organizer.

I understand that the ID designated the Family Organizer generally pays for everything - and that's fine.

2) if I do this, each family member is going to have to sign out from the shared ID used for purchases, and then sign in again there with their primary Apple ID.

Will they then need to re-install all the apps?

what will happen to any data or content in the apps?

thanks.

I've had nothing but frustrations with Apple Family Sharing. It's just my wife and me; no kids. Her account is the Family Organizer. All purchases and subscriptions must be done through the family organizer's payment method. There's no way for individual family members to pay for purchases themselves.

I subscribe to a bunch of stuff my wife doesn't use and doesn't care about, but unfortunately shows up on her credit card. That's not ideal, but it get worse. Every purchase -- every $2 app I purchase -- must be approved and verified by her. It's such a pain. I hate it.

I'm not sure if my experience is normal, we're doing something wrong, or if it's just a bug that affects some accounts. But from what I can see, there doesn't appear to be a way to change or fix this. That's just the way it is.

Same situation here. I wish Apple would post a support document for this. I imagine it affects more people than Apple realizes. I would like to do this so that my family can share an AppleOne plan & keep the apps, subscriptions, & media we have amassed on our shared AppleID.

I assume that step 1 is what needs to be done first, but I share the questions ashed about step 2.

Anyone out there do this already who can help?
