I'm going to be ordering my new 2011 MBP soon, and I'm wondering about the Windows Reinstall. The partition was on my old late '08 MBP, by the way.

My question is this. I know that Windows might give me trouble with activation, since the hardware has changed. Do I have to call Microsoft to get the old one deactivated, or will it be a straightforward reinstall with reactivation options built right in? The version of Windows was Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

If you have a retail or academic copy of windows 7, you can transfer the license. OEM licenses can't be transferred. You don't need to call microsoft to de-activate a license.

Once you install windows 7 to the new computer, try the online activation. If it doesn't work, just call the number microsoft provides.
