Don't get too carried away. The mozilla website seems slow as hell (too many downloads, I guess).

More good news, this also seems to work with safari, just copy the above in to a file, save it as a css and select it as your style sheet in safari prefs :D
 
Rather than block all ads (which is what that stylesheet above is trying to do), I use the adblock plugin and just block the annoying ones. If enough people block all ads then sites that depend on them for revenue, such as Macrumors, will either go away or else shift to a "pay to play" model.
 
Westside guy: Considering most of the people in the world are still using IE, I doubt that just because edesignuk, myself, and a few select others are blocking ads that it will make enough of a difference.

I remember a survey done in my Web Apps class--i was the one and only person using Mozilla Firebird in that class. This is a class of 30 (1/30 = 3%) . I doubt the numbers change much elsewhere, they probably get even worse and drop below 1% in most office buildings. Heck, most of people my mother/father's age (i.e. baby boomer generation) do not use it.

Seriously, revenue is not gonna suffer. If I am on a Mac Forum typing about Mozilla Firebird, I am probably 1/million and that's out of the the 1/billion that would even visit this site.

I'm not sure why they don't highlight it on their website but there are a bunch of mirrors available for downloading.
 
This is interesting. It works, but just. Apparently, the whole page is generated but there is not vertical scroll bar. :(
 
Love it. A couple problems for me though. First, delete key doesn't go back one page. It's something I've been using for a long time and its annoying when you have to use two keys (Cmd-[). Another is that there is not key shortcut for home. The shortcut for View Source, Cmd-U, is unlike any other browser that I know of and annoys me, since I am used to either Cmd-E or Cmd-Alt-V. Although the sytax highlighting is nice, it takes considerably longer for the source to show up than it does in Safari or even Internet Explorer.

One bug I found really annoys me. In the past, with any broser I have hidden the navigation toolbar and used key commands to navigate. Cmd-L would bring up the address bar if I needed to type in an address. However, this is causing problems in Firefox. Cmd-L with Navigation Toolbar closed asks for the URL and choice of opening in new window, current window, or new tab. No matter what option I choose, it opens up a new blank page and doesn't load anything.

I like using Cmd-K to go the Google Toolbar and dict ___ to look up a word. It would be cool if they could come up with something like SnapBack, though.
 
Another annoying bug - the extra window that shows up during Expose. Firefox is good, and would most likely be my first choice on a PC (I haven't tried that one out yet) but I'm still going to stick with Safari for Mac, with Firefox around for testing and for the occasional site that Safari does not work for.

That's not a bug--it's a feature of every Mozilla gecko-based browser (from Mozilla, at least.)

Feature? I call a feature something that makes life easier for me, something like the pop-up blocker or syntax highlighting. Most people don't consider annoying little quirks to be features. It's not that big of a deal, but it does nothing to help me, and all it does is annoy me. I have enough windows open as it is, and an extra window only makes it harder when using expose.

How do you know that it doesn't make your life easier by making the browser work better?

Prior to Exposé, you didn't know that such a window was there. Is it truly that much worse now?
 
Maybe it could help functionality, but I don't see how an empty, uncloseable window floating in the background could help the browser work better. Even so, Safari seems to work perfectly fine without one... is it necessary for the Mozilla engine to have such a window to funcion properly?
 
mms: Is that annoying empty window only a problem on the Mac OSX platform? Because i haven't seen it yet on my PC...kind of have me worried about it after seeing your numerous posts about it.

Ah! So it's not just me then. I have only downloaded it for Windows (quite happy w/ safari on OS X) and I didn't get a scroll bar either :rolleyes:, I'll just stick with Firebird 0.7.1 for now I guess.
