MP 4,1 Graphic Cards and noise levels ??

Hi folks,

I just got myself a new/used Mac Pro 4,1 Dual 2,26 for various graphic projects. On the Windows side, I run some CAD Programs and on OSX there are some smaller CS5 projects. Since I plan to do also some audio midi stuff on it, noise levels will be problem later on.

Among the following available graphic cards for the Mac Pro, which one is the LEAST NOISY one?


- ATI 4850
- Nvidia GTX EVGA 285
- ATI 5770
- ATI 5870

Does anybody have any experience with those cards compared to noise levels? I have heard the Nvidia GT120 is a low noise card, however the performance just might be problem there for my work.

The ATI 3870 is obv. better the the 120 and can be fittted with a passive heat sink (no noise at all), however would I be fine on the performance end of it ??

What is your experience ?

I can only speak for the 5770. Even under heavy 3D graphics load, it remains either silent or so quiet I cannot hear it over the existing ambient noise of the computer itself.
