Hello, dear MacRumors Community,
I was reading through the MacRumors since many Years. Now I have a little Issue with my Mac and became a Part of the Community too.
My Problem is, that many Days ago my old GPU, a Radeon RX580 was dying. I bought a new RX6600, which I could actually buy very cheap. After I receive my new Radeon I patched the BIOS and put it in my MacPro 5.1. Everything is working fine from the first start.

I notice in Windows 11 a huge Performance Boost compared to my old RX580. After that, I was booting in my macOS (Monterey 12.6.5) and there i notice in some Games that the Performance isn't good, actually the Geek bench Scores proves that. I have now the same OpenCL Score like my old RX580 on macOS and on Windows about 40,000 Points more! My Metal Score is about 7,000 Points above that it should be. I don't know why this happened. I really hope anyone can help me.

To my Specs: I got an MP 5.1 with a Dual Xeon 5690, 48 GB RAM, RX6600 and at least the most important Information, I got running Monterey with Martin Lo’s OpenCore Package. I already tried to switch the Versions too. Was I trying, was to use a SATA to 8PIN PCI-E Adapter but still no change, still got a low GPU Performance on macOS.

Thanks in advance, Greetings

OpenCL is not properly developed on macOS for some time now. Compare only the Metal performance and disregard OpenCL.

Hey, thanks for your answer.

I know. But compared to the other benchmarks, I'm lower even in the OpenCL. The other RX6600 had about 6600 Points there. I think that's why my Performance in Games on macOS not gained, and it's not the bottleneck of the CPU. Is the Problem maybe the Martin Lo’s package? I saw there is already a Driver included, maybe the Driver is not compatible with the RX6600?

Try this for RX6600 [N.B. Double check your PCIe path before you apply the code]
Code:
<key>PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x3,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key>
            <dict>
                <key>@0,name</key>
                <string>ATY,Henbury</string>
                <key>@1,name</key>
                <string>ATY,Henbury</string>
                <key>@2,name</key>
                <string>ATY,Henbury</string>
                <key>@3,name</key>
                <string>ATY,Henbury</string>
                <key>device_type</key>
                <string>ATY,HenburyParent</string>
            </dict>

Install the latest opencore + Monterey 12.7.1
then the solution will be in the video
My geekbench 4 score was 55000 points.
After I did what is in the video I got 133353 points!!!
Increase GPU performance
Hope this helps

This proposed "solution" is completely flawed and only matters for benchmarking bragging and views on YouTube.

Without spoofing a 2019 Mac Pro or iMac Pro, anything that requires a newer Mac to work like direct hardware access to the GPU for hardware assistance of video encoding/transcoding/compression/decompression/coloring and Continuity/AirDrop/Universal Control/SideCar/etc will stop working.

Hello everybody,
I succeeded in switching from RX580 to flashed RX6600 in my MP5.1. VideoProc says HW acceleration is enabled.
Geekbench6.4.0 shows for:
- CPU X5680 SC 590 MC 2774
- RX580, OpenCL 38920 and Metal 37108
- RX6600, OpenCL 53026 and Metal 90939
Are the scores ok?
but improvement results with DxOPL7/RX6600 using DeepPRIME XD/Export RAW-->Tiff are not so good:
- for DC-S1R:
- RX580 1mn 46s
- RX6600 1mn 30s
- for DC-S1:
- RX580 52s
- RX 6600 43s
When I use plug-ins on Photoshop, the analysis is much faster from 45s (RX580) to 30s (RX6600). I timed the Topaz GigaPixel8 to enlarge a DC-S1 TIFF 3808x5712 pixel file to 4724x7086 for 40x60cm prints at 300dpi and the improvements are dramatic:
- with RX580:
- High fidelity analysis 69 sec
- Export tiff 5 mn 25 sec 130 Mo—>164 Mo
- with RX6600:
- High fidelity analysis 34 sec
- Export tiff 2 mn 44 sec 130 Mo—>164 Mo

I've noticed two things: the fans are much quieter, the CPU is less stressed. When processing DeepPRIME XD/Export RAW-->Tiff, I think the process uses the RX6600 more than the RX580 and the CPU less! Obviously, less power is supplied but I can't see the temperature of my (RX6600) GPU card any more with TG PRO.

I tried the MacBook Pro M1Pro 16Gb RAM of my son. With DxOPL8 using DeepPRIME XD/XD2S with Export RAW DC-S1 files-->Tiff, the results are much better: 15s only (RX580=52s, RX6600=43s).
Is there anything that can be done to improve the results? Does anyone have similar results with the same RX6600 card? A comparison with a RX6800 (non-XT)?
Best regards.
