Anyone know of a good free mac app to convert mp3 files to m4r so I can add them to iTunes as ringtones? I'm using Lion

I know you can do it with Garageband but I don't know how. My suggestion will be iringtones which is available on Mac App Store for 2 bucks. It not only converts file, you can also cut the section you like and adjust fade out/in.

Convert the MP3 to AAC with iTunes itself (it's under the menus in iTunes). Then use the "show in finder" item in iTunes to locate the new AAC version, and drag it to an app called MakeiPhoneRingtone. You can get it here. It's free and very easy to use.

Adapter looks like it will do that.
Adapter doesn't seem to have the option to convert to m4r. Is there any other format that will open up in iTunes as a ringtone?

I'd rather have something that has fewer steps. Just straight from mp3 to m4r but thank you

If I'm not mistaken you can convert the .mp4 to .m4a with Adapter and then just change the extension on the converted file to .m4r and it should work through iTunes.
