I'm not new to Mac's but I am new to downloading MP3's. Having read, "help" and visited loads of sites I eventually found that you have to press Ctrl while at the same time clicking on the download to make them work. This opens a box and its obvious from that point what to do. I've spent days wondering why it wouldn't work pressing, file, save as, music. Which was all I could find on other sites. I assume that its one of those things that everyone knows as its really really basic.
All help tells you is how itunes works. Very annoying. I hope that this is of some help to others trying to find how to download MP3's

You mean saving mp3's from web pages? You have to ctrl-click on the hyperlink to the file precisely because it's a hyperlink. Using the file menu in a web browser would save the web page containing the link, not the mp3 listed on the page. That's just the way the Internet works--it's not a Mac or Windows thing.
