Hi All MP4tools/AVItools Users,
If you're not a user of these apps, then the following won't be of much interest to you, so you can probably skip this post :). I've recently had some time available to start the work on what has been the most requested feature for MP4tools/AVItools - automation. The first step is that the Quick Tab is being replaced by user definable presets for (a) track selection, and (b) conversion settings. With the combination of these presets, you, for example, should be able to tell MP4tools to automatically select the video track and all English audio tracks, and then, when converting these automatically select tracks, convert for Apple TV with pass thru for the video, and set the audio bit rate to 160 for stereo audio and 448 for surround, and if the audio is surround add a stereo track. When a new video is opened, these presets will be applied, saving you some button pushing, but the real value of this improvement will come when you drag 10 videos to MP4tools. When you press the Convert button, the 10 videos will be added to the queue with the presets applied. Videos will no longer have to be similar for this drag and drop batch processing to work.

The second step in this update, will be the adding of a capability to have MP4tools/AVItools sit in the background and watch a folder, and then convert any videos added to the folder using these presets. For now there is a beta of MP4tools (no AVItools yet) posted at the EmmGunn website which has the presets working. Give them a try and let me know how it goes, especially if your registered, let me know how the drag and drop batch processing goes. It's worked well in my testing, but I know there are some hardcore users out there and I'm sure that you'll find some issues that I've missed :). Also, let me know if you have requests for different preset "rules".

The third step in this update will be a "What do you want to do when the processing is done?" option. The obvious are (a) nothing, and (b) send to iTunes. I know that there are many users that open the results in other applications. If you are one of those people and would like a an option like "Open in My Application", let me know what applications you would like to see included. Depending on the demand and the scriptability of the app, I'll add it to the list. If you have a request for a different action, let me know.

You can post your feedback here or use the beta e-mail address on the website. Thanks!

Cheers.
