After months of trying, I was *briefly* able to finally get the duplex option to work - it just happened to allow me to check it when printing in TextWrangler, and once I checked the full duplex box then all programs could print in duplex. (On an earlier Canon printer I owned, Microsoft Word was the one that let me check the box.)
UNTIL...
They just stopped again. No program I tried could do it. The duplex box was grayed out. I'd been using the latest OS-X driver from the Canon webstie. So then, based on earlier advice, I tried the older, non-CUSP driver from Canon. Still no luck - no duplex. And I need duplex for almost all my printing. And all the printers I own are Canons.
So once again, I'm back to printing everything from within XP within VMWare, which is a royal pain.
Does anyone have any ideas? I really wish Apple would put some pressure on Canon about this - honestly, while it seems a trifling detail, not being able to print from MacOS on Canon printers really sours the Mac ownership experience, and for timid Windows users on the fence (like my wife), I've found this can be the last straw that sends them running away from Macs forever.
I really, really don't want to have to use Windows XP to print forever. I've been doing it for over 2 years now.
Thanks to anyone with advice.

P.S. I'm running Leopard 10.5.6 on a Core2 17" MBP, although the Canon Duplex issue I had even back in Tiger.
