Got home from work to a metallic smell...... tracked it down to the MBP. Had a bad feeling when I couldn't open it up. Took the lower cover and found this:

Whilst I'm relieved that the house didn't burn down, I was wondering if I have any redress from Apple regarding this. It's a 2011 MPB 17", so out of warranty - but this seems like a catastrophic and dangerous failure for a £2k laptop that's less than 4 years old. Will Apple make good on this, or do I need to claim on my insurance? (I'm in the UK if that makes any difference).
TIA

Mine inflated like a balloon on my older MBP 17, doubt that Apple will make good on it. Did the meltdown fry the board?

And this is the kind of stuff that keeps me up at night... especially as a guy who has several laptops sitting below a shelf with quite a few cans of gunpowder! LOL

Good luck dealing with Apple. FWIW, I've seen them resolve issues past warranty dates. Glad it wasn't worse.
