MPEGStreamClip and DVDxDV can convert MPEG2 to DV for editing within iMovie. Are you sure you want to edit MPEG4 in iMovie?

Maybe he's from the near future and is using iMovie HD 6. ;)

[I suspect/hope iLife '06 will remove the need for input to iMovie to be from firewire and/or DV]

If you convert to Mpeg-4 and then import into iMovie, isn't iMovie going to convert again to DV? Seems like a lot of conversion...

I am new to this stuff, converting from digital photography to movie making.. LOL

I bought a camcorder that records in MPEG-2 (JVC 20GB HARD DRIVE MODEL), I want to edit my films in iMovie or Final Cut Pro, but someone told me that MPEG2 isnt supported, so what is the best route to be able to edit my movies...??

I thought ffmpegX would convert from MPEG-2 into DV or MPEG-4 easily. It is free and opensource as well. (Sorry, I never had to do such a conversion myself, so I may be missing something.)

UPDATE:

The camera came with software to cinvert it to the format I need to edit. Pretty good quality for a $600 camera too, and the best part there are NO tapes to rewind it has a 20GB Hard Drive.
