mpg to iMovie? why not?

Hi guys!
I recorded several short videos with my Sony DSC W55 digital camera. I want to import them into an iMovie project but it does not work. The videos are "mpeg1 muxed". To what do I have to convert them to make it work? And how? I already tried to convert them with Quicktime...
I'm a little bit confused because other videos that are "mpeg1 muxed" even were automatically imported and work just fine in iMovie. They were shot with different cameras though.

Google 'Squared 5' and use their MPEG Streamclip software to convert it to DV.
