.mpkg needed?

Thinking of saving the Lion onto my NAS server for easy access, also as a backup purpose, if I ever loose my USB dongle I made to boot from.

Do I just need to copy over the InstlallESD.dmg? Or both the image and OSInstall.mpkg file too?

Reason why I'm asking is, when you do a USB bootable key via Disc Utility, you only need the dmg image.
