Hey gang -

I have three 4K displays connected to my Mac Pro, and the first is connected to the AMD's HDMI output. The other two are connected to the Thunderbolt ports using USB-C to HDMI cables as found on Amazon. What I should have done was just get three of those USB-C cables, but: I didn't. Well, the results are that: because the HDMI port shares bandwidth with Thunderbolt bus 0 on the cards, I can't have:
  • 4K (HDMI)
  • 4K (Thunderbolt)
  • 4K (Thunderbolt)
  • ---
  • ---

I basically have to skip a port, or move both Thunderbolt connections to the second channel. So, for instance, this works:
  • 4K (HDMI)
  • 4K (Thunderbolt)
  • ---
  • 4K (Thunderbolt)
  • ---

Or:
  • 4K (HDMI)
  • ---
  • ---
  • 4K (Thunderbolt)
  • 4K (Thunderbolt)

Turns out, Apple already has a knowledge base article on this same topic: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210316
