I have been purusing the net for info on a possible hack for flip-phones that I am sure some Trekkie nerd is working on, or something.

Would it ever be possible to hack a phone so that each and everytime you flip open the phone (regardless if its to answer a call)....

it makes that original Star Trek "dooodley doo" noise?

If your cell makes a noise when it is opened already, then it might be possible to change that tone to the Star Trek noise. I have a spin-phone, and when I spin it, it can make a sound. I prefer to have it not, though.

Well of course that would come to my mind, if my phone did it.

I got a regular flip phone, and there is no "sound" setting for that, though there is an obvious hardware/software connection because it knows when the phone is opened, turning on the LCD and backlite.

Just wait until the Communicator Phone comes out later this year (or early next year). It will be awesome, will make a sound when you open it, and it runs Windows Mobile :(.
