Just as the title states, so I was on eBay and was interested in MS office 2001 which runs in OS 9 - I just acquired also an Epson Stylus 600 printer(had one of those back in 1997) - drivers for OS 9 still exist. Can someone tell me if 2001 version is a good one ? Compared to the blostware that’s out there, 2001 Office for Mac seems to run fast on my PB G4 Pismo.

It's my main version of Office I use other than 2004. It's a good, solid version that works really well under OS 9.

Yeah, you can use IMAP for Gmail: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?hl=en

Keep in mind that if you have two-factor identification enabled for your Google services you will need to create an app-specific password.

How do I tell if I have 2 factor verification ?? I wish they never invented security over the web. Except for sensitive info like Bank and cc information - google has gone too far - another question - when did OS 9 start not working well with the internet ? It can’t be that long ago - 2010 ?

LOL! are you saying that lil' Clippy is out to get me?! :D
Well…Clippy, HAL, Siri, Cortana, Skynet…they're all kind of along the same line don't you think? ;)

You have 2FA enabled if you need a trusted device to complete a login to a Google account. For example, I logged in to my Google account on my MP yesterday and Google wanted me to confirm that login with my Pixel 3a XL phone.

That's 2FA. If you have that enabled, you'll need to create an app specific password. Office 2001 isn't going to be able to deal with 2FA.

Office:Mac 2001 is actually my favorite on PPC/os9 or Classic - especially on the Clamshell's low-res screen.
On my windows network I'm also on Office 2000 and that won't change!
I keep all my Office documents in the Office97-04 file-format and if necessary I use the "MS Open XML Converter" (needs Tiger) or Office 2008 to get access to/convert any docx/xlsx/pptx files.
And thanks guys for making me laugh about "Clippy" and fellow friends ... (though I have to admit, that my ever first action on any Win/Mac Office is to retire "Karl Klammer" - that's his name here)

Same here - he just gets annoying after a (very short) while. :p

That reminds me I ran Office 2000 on Tiger (Intel) using Crossover in '06. 'twas loads faster than Office v.X in Rosetta, but looked a little jarring.

Maybe that’s why neither classila, outlook express, or any other email client is working - I’d rather disable all 2fa as I don’t need it.

Hi Eric(eyoungren), I really admire your support of OS 9 and thank you for helping me. I hope by disabling the 2fa in gmail, all my vintage email clients will work, as I really don’t need any security at all. I want to relive 2000 again where there was no such thing as the internet we now have, no coronavirus, nothing - just want to take my nostalgia back to when I used OS 9 for everything. Once a couple of the developers here gets ahold of how to by-pass and or allow OS 9 web browsers to view all if not most websites, I will be very happy. Seeing how OS X has turned out I feel my needs are more than justified to go back to OS 9. I have a PB G4 with leopard and all the web browsers I could find. But, if OS 9 can bring me happiness then so be it.

While yes, I am running Mojave on my Mac Pro - it’s nice, but not like OS 9. I hope you understand. I don’t need YouTube to work on OS 9, as I have my iPhone and other machines for that, but for everyday tasks I think OS 9 will work for me.

So once it’s off and it asks for it when I am in OS 9, how do i shut it up ?

Just for the record, I'm trying to help you. I ditched OS9 the first chance I got and I have more bad memories of it than I do good. But I'm a graphic designer which means I pushed the system much more than the typical user.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I just don't care for OS9. :)

As far as the internet goes, I can remember telling my wife some time in 1998 that I would never use a credit card over the internet to buy something. That was because interception of CC numbers during shopping cart transactions was rampant, even back then. People were getting ripped off. That was pre-OS9 days. So, I remember the internet a little bit different. :D

Anyway, if I am helping, I'm glad to be of assistance. However, I do not know how you'd go about forcing 2FA to shut off entirely. Supposedly the link I provided does that. But, you know…Google.

Well, I wouldn’t use the internet in OS 9 for anything financial or CC based, just web browsing like macrumors - anything non financial which has to have me use a cc or bank account. Yes, I know google and I don’t like the game they are playing - https for Wikipedia ? Really ?

@Macbookprodude

Basically, a 2 factor authentication is a process where it will generate a unique password for that 1 app for 1 entry. This unique password is stored in your GMAIL account and your email IMAP program needs to use this unique password to bypass the 2FA. This is useful for older email programs like Thunderbird with Tiger with my PowerBook G4 DSLD and Classila email client on my PowerBook G3 Wallstreet. You need to create 1 unique account per app per machine. The easiest way to create one is to use your phone as the 2nd authentication and a modern computer as the 1st authentication to show that unique password. When that unique password is generated, quickly type that password into your email client of your OS9 and then it should work. Make sure your IMAP is setup correctly first, because if it isn't, then you need to re-generate a new unique password again. The unique password tells Gmail's 2FA to shut up. Hope this helps.
