Just upgraded my G4 PowerBook and got the new black MacBook. I have Office 2003 for the Mac. Does anyone know if this will run on the MacBook? I know it is not UB but since it ran on the G4 I thought it might run on the MacBook under OS X 10.4.9. Thanks for any help........

There is no Office 2003 for Mac. Do you have Office 2004 for Mac, or do you have Office 2003 for Windows?

There are lots of threads on Office 04 on an Intel Mac... generally, people say it runs reasonably well. Probably not dramatically faster than the G4, though. Probably will also use more memory than it used on the PPC.

it runs just as well as NeoOffice for me, just takes a few seconds longer to load. i can deal with that.

Its doubtful it runs as well as NeoOffice...and RAM is precious...

Yeah but NeoOffice is like a slightly prettier OpenOffice, which isn't saying much. The hassle of using NeoOffice far outweighs any faster launch times. Especially for a businesswoman.

Le sigh....

If you *have* the macbook, and you *have* Office 04, why not install it and decide for yourself? If you want to try Neo, install that too. It's not like the OP is going out and buying a new copy of Office.

™

I've never had any problems with my MB running Office 2004 slowly (I have 1GB of RAM). It runs fine, even if I have many other windows open or a second screen attached.

NeoOffice is great, and office is cool as well, runs ok on my MB, runs great on my mini G4

just out of curiosity, have you actually spent time using Office 2004 on a Mac intel machine?

Yes...and it slowed down my machine; I like my RAM...

With two Office programs in use, the spinning wheel comes quite often...

Office 2004 works just fine on my MacBook. No spinning wheels, no RAM problems...

Office is fine on my Mac mini w/1.25 GB of RAM. I use Word and PowerPoint simultaneously very often. I tried NeoOffice but I could never get the language packages to work.

I think the people saying Office 2004 on the Macbook is slow are doing so because Office 2004 is still PowerPC-only... it does not run natively on Intel computers.

yes, slow but still usable, just wait For Office '08 UB or something, Or just use NeoOffice
