Ugh, I hate this as well. My Mac at home is not my work computer. So I use it for work stuff usually only once a week during the weekends. This means that pretty much every Saturday I have to go through an update process. It is incredibly annoying. How many freaking updates do I need in order to use a Word processor in 2016? Is an update every weekend really necessary?

Sounds like there is a bug where the update doesn't tell itself that it's already updated.

U can always turn off auto-update and go manual. I do manual update on virtually everything, nothing is gonna blow up if you miss a few updates.

Office 2011 and 2016 are receiving updates monthly, which is the standard for Microsoft. Occasionally they'll have an interim hot fix. For instance, there was one for Outlook 2016 about a week after the 15.26 update was released, but that isn't common.
