MS Word <--> Bluetooth/Onscreen Keyboard issue

When I use the new MS Word App with an Apple Blue tooth keyboard, the on-screen keyboard remains open. Even when I hit the key in the lower right to minimize the keyboard, it doesn't respond. The bluetooth keyboard works, but the on-screen keyboard takes up a good deal of Screen real estate. This is true with the iPhone 6 plus as well. I am using IOS 8.12 and an IPad retina mini and an iPhone 6 plus. Anyone have a fix for this or is anyone aware if this is a known IOS or Word Bug?
