I just installed Filemaker Pro 8.5 on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.4.10). When I use the "Data Merge Manager" in MS Word 2004, it gives me the option to link to Filemaker Pro files, but they are all ghosted and I can't select them. The files all have the extension fp7. I've enabled ODBC in Filemaker's preferences and made sure the individual database file is accessible, as well. Anyone know what the problem is? Many thanks.

My guess, and I haven't confirmed it yet, is that Word 2004 is not compatible with Filemaker 7.0, 8.0, 8.5 and 9.0 -- only Filemaker 6 and earlier

Filemaker 7.0 was introduced in March 2004, after Office was released, and the .FP7 file format is radically different from the .FP5 file format used in version 5, 5.5 and 6.0.

Can you look in the Word 2004 help and see if it defines Filemaker database versions?

Your alternative is to Export from Filemaker into a Tab Text, CSV or Excel file, and merge from that.
