MS Word - Spellcheck mayhem

I have found roughly 176,973 supposed solutions on the interweb to the problem of MS Word constantly switching back to a U.S. dictionary despite selecting the UK as default, but none worked.

Help?!

And how come the spellcheck regularly fails to pick up on incorrectly spelt words? Even if I typed in Tfhsfajliqgdadjkagd it would pass it as okay. (Maybe it's a city in Uzbekistan?).

It's the older one, 2004.

Me again. I'm really, really close to throwing my copy of Microsoft Word 2004 in to the river, I just cannot get the spellcheck to work properly.

I still have the problem of it constantly reverting to the U.S. dictionary, no matter what I do, but worse, it keeps skipping incorrectly spelt words when I run the checker.

Has anyone managed to solve this problem, which seems to be common enough. Again, I've Googled and Googled and found all kinds of supposed solutions, but THEY DON'T WORK!
