I hope this fits within the confines of this section. Mods can move it if it doesn't.

Anyway I've been using Messenger for Mac 6.0.3 and a couple days ago I decided to download Messenger 7. But it didn't work and now I can't log in to my account. I've tried logging in on the new version, the old version (since for some reason it couldn't detect it and hence didn't write over it), and I've even tried logging on the the actual Windows Live Site. Now I have had to change my password before due to phishing but I made it a point to write down my new password and now it just doesn't work no matter what I try to do.

I tried doing password recovery but no email has shown up in any of my email accounts (I checked them all just to be sure).

Now the Windows Live site said that I could enter my geographic info and answer my secret question but where does it actually give you the option to do that?

I'm just getting so frustrated. A friend told me to uninstall and reinstall but I'm assuming they were talking from a PC point of view.

Can anyone here help me? I'm so confused and really, really annoyed.

Oh yeah and by the way I have a MacBook Pro and am running OSX 10.4.11 (yes still Tiger)

This would be a problem with MSN, not your computer. I'd say you've been phished.

What again? And this time they changed my password on me?

I didn't have this problem until I tried to download a better version from Mactopia.

How did they even get my info anyway if that's the case?

So what should I do? Delete MSN and reinstall it? Is there a way I can contact the Windows Live website? Someone at Mactopia?

Where can I download AdZapper?

Also will this mean that I have to delete my contacts as well?

Contact are stored in your MSN account. AppZapper (Google it) will offer to delete the actual MSN application and one two preference files. Do this and do a fresh install. You're contact and messenger history will remain intact.

Well, thanks for the suggestions, but it didn't work. :/

I'm just at a loss. What else can I do? Is there someone I can actually talk to?

That seems to be exactly what I'm already doing.

What I don't get is what I find when I go to the help section. This is what it says:

Answer your secret question

1. Click Provide account information and answer your secret question.
2. In the Country/Region list, select the name of your country or region, type your ZIP code (The postal code system that is used in the United States. The ZIP code consists of a series of digits that are added to a postal address. The ZIP code is used to identify each postal delivery area for the purpose of sorting mail.) or postal code ( A series of letters and/or digits that are added to a postal address and used by the postal service for the purpose of sorting mail.) if prompted to do so, and then type your answer to the question in the Question area in the Secret Answer box.
3. Click Continue.
4. Enter and confirm a new password, and then click Continue.
5. Click Done.

Where do I find the option to do this?

1. Navigate to http://support.live.com

2. Click on “Windows Live ID”

3. The help documentation will appear – click any one of the links on the left side (like How can I reset my password?) to open the documentation

4. Once the documentation opens, a link saying “Get more help” will appear in the lower right corner – click on this link

5. Click on the “Get support” link

6. A new windows will open with a eform to fill out – fill it out, and then click Submit

You'll get a ticket number (write this down!), and someone from Live support will contact you. I believe it usually takes a couple of days for them to respond.

Nadyne.

Thanks, nadyne! That was precisely the kind of info I was looking for! :)

However, no longer necessary, I finally figured out why I wasn't receiving any of the reset emails that I was waiting for. I'm all set. Thanks everyone! ^_^
