Every time i sign into msn or start a conversation with someone, msn creates a file in my doc's. Is there any real reason for this and is there a way to stop it? I find it incredibly annoying as it changes the order of my folders so i forever clicking the wrong one. I have tried hiding it, but it just created another folder.

Any ideas? Its driving me insane

Thanks

What kind of file/folder? Is it some kind of downloads folder? Also, are you running the latest version of Microsoft Messenger?

I believe that is needed for Microsoft Messenger to install/run. Th efolder is also used for Mac Office, and the like..

Yeah, it's annoying. What I did was move the Microsoft User Data folder to ~/Library/Application Support/ then create an alias to it in ~/Documents, then make the alias invisible using an app called X-Ray

The Microsoft User Data folder is required for Messenger to operate correctly. You shouldn't move it or delete it.

Nadyne.

I disagree. If you delete it, it will just be created again next time you lauch a Microsoft app. As for moving it, I moved it two years ago (as described above) and have had no problems at all.

It's where MSN saves conversation histories. Do you have that option enabled under preferences. I'm not sure if this folder is used for anything else though but I know I've deleted it without any problems.

Messenger 7 stores message history (if you have that enabled), as well as your custom emoticons, in that directory. Deleting it means that you've lost that information.

Nadyne.

tryed this but the alias is still visible in the dock on my documents. Dnt think theres a way round this.

Final Cut Pro, Color, Soundtrack Pro, Parallel's Desktop, iChat, EyeTV all create folders there, along with other applications.

It isn't restricted to Messenger:Mac. Though, the majority of these applications you can change the directory so the folder is no longer in your Documents folder, but still, it isn't a big deal.

I use the trial version of xray.

Open xray
go to file->open
open the alias
check the Invisible box
quit xray (save file when prompted)
