You should *not* need firewall ports to be open to get MSN Messenger to work -- it should be able to default back to port 80. Buuuuuut. If it is a transport issue for some reason, switching to Adium won't do anything for you?

the error message i get is
"this service is temporarily unavailable............"
it works fine here for all the people with crappy windows
Can I clairify your initial question a bit.. Are you unable to connect to MSN using Adium? Or Microsoft's MSN client?wiiiiilllll said:i use adium but i dont like it

Yes and yes.Mhaddy said:Has anyone else ran into this problem? Would you suggest switching over to Adium? Thanks!
Mhaddy said:Hi all,
Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd chime in here. I have MSN v5 (the latest) and while I never have a problem connecting, many a time MSN will just sign itself out saying that there is a problem with my Internet connection (when there isn't one). I can just hit "OK" and sign back in, but it's such an annoyance; heck, sometimes I'll be having an indepth conversation with someone then MSN will sign me out, and the last like six messages that I sent will be undelivered.
Has anyone else ran into this problem? Would you suggest switching over to Adium? Thanks!
hey i have msn mesenger and it works fine... but when im at school it won't log on.. its besause the port msn uses is blocked but... the windows users can log on fine... some guy told me that it was besause msn uses port 80 if it can't log on at the organial port... but it doesnt seam to do so on mac any ideas og what to do...
I think this setting is in the preferences somewhere. I know it is in all the "alternatives" -- Adium, aMSN, so on.
