msn slow transfer speed

i tried msn 6.0.2, and also Adium. the connection speed is ridiculously slow. it takes a couple of minutes to transfer 1 MB of stuff, and one or two minutes to transfer a 500 KB picture. what's wrong?

Are you behind a router? If so it's because the ports aren't forwarded, and the Mac version doesn't do UPnP like the Windows version either. So because of this it has to send the file via Microsoft's servers which have a very small amount of bandwith.

To be honest, you're better of e-mailing files than sending them through MSN Messenger.

the thing is, my friend's msn for windows transfer speed is a lot faster though, and my mac programs are so slow.
