Woke up this morning to lots of report about a new virus or worm for Mac OS X that should be a big threat, called MacOS.Renepo.B or SH/Renepo-A. How exciting I thougth, the first real virus (not consept) in ages. And dove in to find out how to protect myself...

After reading the storys and the reports from Symantec and Sophos though I relaxed a little. It's not really a worm, but a script that needs to be run either by root or with root priviliges... not very threatning, after all if you just avoid giving the script your root password when it tries to execute...

Yep, but it serves as a timely reminder that us Mac users must not get too complacent. It seems as if Mac OS X gives a good level of base protection, but someone, somewhere, sometime ( :D ) will be bothered to write something that can exploit our systems.

Still, I won't bother worrying about anti-virus software just yet :p
