muliple foreign sims with unlocked 3Gs

I have an oficially unlocked iPhone 3Gs and i want to put a uk sim card into it,however ill need to put my regular carriers sim back in the odd time through the day to check messages etc. will i need to connect to itunes and restore everytime i switch carriers or does the iPhone save carrier settings and access them when the particular sim is put in.

No,
The very first time you put each sim in, you will need to connect to iTunes, but each subsequent time you swap them, it doesn't need to be connected up.
