Posting in another thread reminded me that I should really try to get more use out of my 2018 MBP15.
I use a 2018 Mac mini (i7/64/500) as my regular workstation with 2x 24” displays, and it works well for most things; occasionally it shows some limits but mostly it’s fine - eg last night with 10 VMs running and a whack of safari tabs it got a little beach-bally at times but I think that’s due to the slower external SSD the VMs are on.
Anyway so besides the above regular machine I have the laptop mentioned at the top, which is an off the shelf stock i7/16/250 spec. (was bought in a hurry at the time - just needed anything that I could work on due to hw failures in an older machine).
I’ve gotten to thinking that I could possibly offload some of the day to day work from the mini, onto the laptop and just run it on the desk to my side - for stuff like email, team communication, what have you itll be fine.
My work is almost exclusively writing/reading code of some kind/researching tech/etc - no graphical editing type stuff going on, just a big java IDE, a heap of terminal windows/tabs and anywhere from 1 to a dozen VMs at a time.
I figure I can try the mail/chat/etc stuff on it first and if it works well get a stand to raise it up, 2nd keyboard etc.
So my question is: am I overlooking some other smart way to get more use from this machine?
